Memoir in the Moment: A Writing Lab with Michael Kleber-Diggs

$50.00

Memoirists often confront what can appear to be a dual dilemma—whether to write about significant moments in our lives in the moment or wait for the kind of perspective time and space can allow. The answer, ideally, is "both."

And, at the same time, different writers will have different approaches and interests. Some significant experiences lend themselves to real-time consideration, while other experiences won't seem to allow it. The question we're likely to ask ourselves when we write during significant or difficult moments won't always be "should I write about this right now?" it might be "how can I write about this right now?"

In this lab guided by poet and memoirist Michael Kleber-Diggs, we'll consider strategies that allow us to capture the best of both worlds, the specific details we can document before our memory fades them, and the broader understanding and expanded context that often arrives after the passage of time. We'll practice being writers in the moment and writers who thrives with time for additional contemplation.
